To celebrate the end of summer Sotheby's is kindly hosting a CEOs/Inner Circle luncheon in their elegant executive dining room and, after our lunch, offering members a tour of the always-exciting annual impressionist sale by August O Uribe, Senior Vice President of Impressionist and Modern Art, New York (his travel schedule permitting). For some time now members have been asking us to increase the number of events where people will have a chance to just talk and get to know one another and their businesses better. This will be one of an ongoing series responding to that request.
Generously hosted by Amy Todd-Middleton, Senior Vice President and Director of North America Marketing Services, Sotheby's
ABOUT AUGUST O. URIBE
August O. Uribe, Senior Vice President of Impressionist and Modern Art, New York, joined Sotheby's in June 1991 as an Assistant Vice President. In 1996 Mr. Uribe became Director of Business Development for Sotheby's Latin America and later directed Fine Arts for Sotheby's Fine Art operations on the West Coast from 1998 - 2000.
Mr. Uribe currently oversees all of Sotheby's New York Day Sales of Impressionist and Modern Art. During his tenure (the last three years) the market has spent over $1 billion in Impressionist and Modern Art at Sotheby's (versus $659 million at Christie's). In Mr. Uribe's sales in 2004, 62 percent of all lots sold realized prices that exceeded pre-sale estimates.
In recent seasons Sotheby's has successfully sold all five of the Degas Arabesque sculptures it has offered (versus a 60 percent success rate at our competitors). In 2004, Sotheby's achieved every one of the top 10 auction prices paid for works by Henry Moore.
In addition to his responsibilities with Sotheby's, Mr. Uribe is active in the non-profit sector of the visual arts. In 1998, he was named to the Visual Arts Board of the Americas Society in New York. Between 1999 and 2002, Mr. Uribe was on the Board of Directors of Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, a non-profit alternative exhibition space in Los Angeles. In 2000, he was appointed a Trustee of the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Uribe also serves as an auctioneer for both fine and decorative art sales.
